Ma Hongjie

Ma Hongjie (born 1963) is the photo editor for Chinese National Geographic magazine. He specializes in social documentary and has compiled over 20 themed photo-reportages.

"The Family Belongs of Chinese People", published in June 2015, documents the life of the underclass over the past three decades and reveals many anecdotes, folk culture, and customs that are deeply rooted in China's native soil. Photos show 50 Chinese families, all of whom have brought their entire contents of their homes outside of their front doors, to be displayed on the ground. It took Ma Hongjie more than three decades to complete this project. Awarded the UNESCO award of excellence at the Asia-Pacific Photo and Drawing Contest, "The Family Belongings of Chinese People" has been shown at the International Photography Festival in Rome and was exhibited at the UK's, Switzerland, and at galleries in Denmark and Norway.
